One Hundred Artists ACT

Every two years the curtain rises on ACT and 100 very special pieces of art are unveiled for a special silent auction event.  Artists Changing Tomorrow (ACT), a program of Arts For Rural Texas, premiered in March 2010 and was an overwhelming success. Both artists and patrons responded enthusiastically to this ARTS fundraiser that focuses on funding and expanding art education and arts community outreach.

ACT 2012 will be held February 18th from 6 PM – 9 PM at the Sterling McCall Event Center, Warrenton, TX, and will include 100 pieces of artwork by artists from 2 continents, 3 nations and 21 states across the US.  Beyond 2012, ACT will grow across the nation, developing chapters in over 50 regions, expanding the support for the arts throughout the nation and world.

NAMTA recognizes the efforts of ACT stating, The International Art Materials Trade Association (NAMTA) and its worldwide membership of artists, art materials retailers and suppliers is proud to endorse and support the objectives of Artists Changing Tomorrow.  NAMTA encourages everyone to aid and strengthen programs designed to sustain and expand art and art education.”

ACT chairperson, Karen Vernon, reminds us that "The arts are a gift to our children's present as well as their future." Tangible results are greater academic achievement, higher test scores, and refined artistic skills. Intangibles include creative thought that culminates in leadership and improved communication skills.

Art is also a tremendous economic stimulus.  It’s a valuable tool for cultural tourism and revitalization.  The arts are a job-creating resource and an integral part of many successful economic engines.  It is proven that within communities, the arts create a sense of pride and reflects on the heritage and history of an area.  It brands a city as progressive and forward thinking, and identifies it as a place to visit with interesting attractions to entertain your mind and stimulate your senses.

The ACT program has already impacted the South Central Texas region by providing funding for free art after school programs, fine art assemblies, and concerts and performances for communities in the region.  Thousands of people have benefited from the contributions of artists from as far away as England.
